The Rev. Dr. Paul A. Crow, Jr., is President of the Council on Christian Unity of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); General Secretary for the Consultation on Church Union (COCU), and noted author, lecturer and preacher. He is married and the father of three children. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Crow was ordained in 1957 for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and has served local congregations in Alabama and Kentucky, as well as a United Church of Christ congregation in Massachusetts. He has also been Campus Minister at the University of Alabama and preached retreats in hundreds of congregations.
Dr. Crow received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of Alabama; two degrees with honors in Church History from Lexington Theological Seminary (B.D.) and from Hartford Theological Seminary (S.T.M.) in 1962. His Post-doctoral studies were completed at Oxford University in 1968 and at the University of Geneva in 1981. He received Doctorate of Divinity degrees from Bethany College and Phillips University in 1983. At present, he is visiting professor at Princeton Theological Seminary and consultant to the Program on Theological Education for the World Council of Churches in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Dr. Crow established the national headquarters of the Consultation on Church Union (COCU). He also served as Moderator of the Ecumenical INstitute at Bossey, Switzerland, and raised $1.1 million for the Bossey Endowment Fund. While President of the Council on Christian Unity, he has set up new financial patterns raising almost $2 million for special projects and an endowment program. Crow is a member of the Central Committee for the World Council of Churches and a member of the Executive Committee and Governing Board of the National Council of Churches. He has participated in bi-lateral dialogues between the Disciples and the Roman Catholic Churches, and the Disciples and the Reformed Presbyterian Churches.
Dr. Crow is editor of Mid-Stream: An Ecumenical Journal, and he has written over 150 articles for prominent theological magazines. He has authored six books -- the most recent being The Anatomy of a Nineteenth Century United Church in 1983. Dr. Crow has been honored as "Outstanding Young Man in America," and he is listed in Who's Who in America and in Who's Who in the World. He is active in sports of all sorts; jogs two miles a day, and has an interest in travel, music, reading and grandparenting.
